Ilocos Sur is a beautiful province located in the northern part of Luzon. It is a province rich in culture that represents the ancient Spanish and Filipino heritage. To show and share their treasures to the whole world, the locals conceived a festival that highlights these cultural traditions and they called it the “Kannadiwan Festival”.

The Kannawidan festival was also an occasion to strengthen the Ilocano culture, recognize Ilocos Sur’s sons and daughters who brought honor to the province, celebrate abundant harvest or just to celebrate the Ilocano spirit that continues to drive locals to boost the province. This celebration lasts from the last week of January up to the first week of February.

The cultural activities in the festival include the zarzuela show, traditional games and pallot or cock games.

Change is a must

Change means make or become different. Year can change and also me. A change is something that can be good for us. This year, I will try to change myself to be a good person.

Before we change, we need to reflect ourselves what have we done. We must also seek the circumstances on what will happen to our environment. Practice everyday because change is not for necessitating haste. Once we learn to practice, we need to think positively.

“It’s only after you’ve stepped outside your comfort zone that you begin to change, grow, and transform.”
        ― Roy T. Bennett

Change is something we need to have. We mustn't think childish because change is not a joke. We should help each other to change.

Vigan City Fiesta Celebration

The Vigan City Fiesta is held in honour of St. Paul the Apostle, the city’s patron saint every 25th of January. The festival has turned into a group cabinet as Vigan longganisa, a local rendition of Mexican salami, has a particular garlicky taste that has turned into a most loved of the Filipino sense of taste. Vigan's garlic and sugarcane vinegar are said to be all the more delightful.

Vigan’s main church, the Metropolitan Cathedral is dedicated to St. Paul and it stands at the core of the Archdiocese of Nueva Segovia. The major Catholic educational institution in Vigan that stands beside the church is also dedicated to the patron, the St. Paul College of Ilocos Sur. The Vigan City Fiesta usually lasts for several days. It includes within the period the celebration of the anniversary of the cityhood of Vigan.

The Vigan longaganisa is a small and plump native sausage, good for about two or three bites. It is garlicky and has a yellowish color. Although it is eaten anytime, even as a bread filling, it is traditional favored as breakfast fare together with fried eggs and steamed or fried rice.

For this celebration, street dance, parade, musical performances, beauty contest and many more are the happenings in this celebration.

New Chapter of my Story

New year is one of our holiday, right? Well, new year means another journey may happen to our life. New year is something to do with us where we are waiting for the upcoming year. This celebration occurs during midnight of December 31st and January 1st. This must be a special day to us.

Last January 1st, we celebrated the New year's celebration together with our relatives and friends. Round fruits are prepared under our tables. Also we wear round objects into our clothes. The streets are very loud because of the motorcyclist. Some are also tie metal basin at the tip of their motor so that it will become more louder. We also light our firecrackers. We do all of this to drive away evil spirits.

This celebration means a lot to me because it gives me opportunity to change myself for the past years. I wanted to change my heart, my soul, my personalities, and also to accept God into ourselves.

Learn from yesterday, live for today, hope for tomorrow.

Christmas, Birth of our Savior

December has come and with it all the joys of Christmas. But what is the real meaning of Christmas? Is it the gifts under the tree, the lights in the windows, stockings hanging in the living room, and shouts of "Merry Christmas" to those who pass us in the streets? Is this really Christmas?

Real christmas is not all about gifts, but to remember the birth of our saviour. It is true that Christmas is happy and enjoyable but the true happiness is where we celebrate the birth of our savior.

The essence of Christmas is not only for present, foods, fun, and parties but the true essence of Christmas is where our family are together to celebrate the birth of our Jesus Christ.

Reach the equality

The Philippine Commission on Women, in coordination with Inter-Agency Council on Violence Against Women and Children (IACVAWC), is tasked to lead, monitor, and evaluate the annual nationwide observance of the 18-Day Campaign to End VAW. Adopting the theme “VAW-free community starts with Me” for year 2016 to 2021, the campaign emphasizes everyone’s commitment and contributions on ending VAW, and presents an ideal picture of a VAW-free community, thus inspiring the general public to make a personal commitment to end violence against women and children.

This campaign aims to promote awareness on the forms of violence women and girls experience, provide information on laws protecting women and girls, feature VAW-related services that people can access and avail, and gather public support for the campaign.
